Justin J. Basara
Justin J. Basara is a Director in Ocean Tomo’s Transaction division.  As the Head of Ocean Tomo’s Private Sale Practice, he is responsible for overseeing all private sale engagements.  His professional experience has focused on the execution of IP and Technology Platform M&A transactions for numerous clients ranging from Fortune 500 companies to venture-backed startups and notable inventors. Additionally, Mr. Basara is the Director of European Operations, with primary responsibility for managing Ocean Tomo’s European IP Auction practice and liaising with European clients on behalf of Ocean Tomo’s other service divisions. 

Prior to his current post, Mr. Basara was Head of Patent Analytics for Ocean Tomo’s Transaction division and was a founding member of Ocean Tomo.  His professional experience relates to the analysis of intangible asset portfolios in the Corporate Finance and Asset Management divisions, working closely with the Appraisals and Analytics groups to provide clients with a comprehensive suite of IP-related transaction services.  Mr. Basara also has significant experience as an analyst in Ocean Tomo’s Expert Testimony division, modeling economic damages arising from intellectual property disputes and providing general litigation support.

Prior to joining Ocean Tomo, Mr. Basara was an analyst and fund controller with Duff & Phelps Capital Partners.  There he assisted in the development and formation of two private equity funds, one focused on IP Sale/License-Back transactions and the other on traditional private equity investments in the U.S. Hispanic market.

Mr. Basara holds a B.S. in Management (Entrepreneurship) from the University of Notre Dame with minors in Management Information Systems and International Business. Mr. Basara passed Level II of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) program in June 2006 and is currently a member of the Licensing Executives Society.
